December Goals

It’s time to set some goals for the current month and I’ll be sticking with the format I used in November. If you need to read more about the format of this post, check out November’s Goals for a detailed explanation. Some of these goals will be the same as November’s, especially the ones that I failed to reach last month. Other goals have been updated and aim to keep the successes of last month going.

My Goals for December

RSS Subscribers

Easy: Reach 150 subscribers. This should be easy, the main challenge will be maintaining the existing subscriber count.
Medium: Hit the 200 subscribers mark. I more than doubled my subscribers in November but I started out fairly low, which made it easier. If I can get my next 100 subscribers this much faster than my first 100, then I’ll hit 4 figures before I know it!
Hard: Quadruple my RSS subscribers two months in a row and reach 400! This might be a tough one but you never now what could happen!

Income

Easy: Make the $32.50 I failed to get in November.
Medium: If I can make $75 then it will cover the costs of the DotComDud Thanksgiving Contest and more than triple my November earnings.
Hard: I’ll keep this goal at $150 and over. Even if my new monetisation methods work fantastically, I think I’ll still need to increase traffic to earn this much.

Posting

Easy: Make at least 10 posts, again this should be the bare minimum to keep this blog active and it should also be quite easy.
Medium: Make 20 posts, including guest posts as part of the Reader Challenge.
Hard: I still want to create some “Pillar Posts” and branch out to other styles of writing (such as humour) and guest posting will give me a good opportunity to try this. This time I’ll set my Hard goal to 25 posts though not just on DotComDud.com but combined from all blogs and guest posts.

Traffic

Easy: I finally hit the 2,000 visits point in November, so I’m raising my Easy goal to 3,000 for the last month of 2009.
Medium: I’ll keep this at 5,000 visits and I think this is possible if I can find some new traffic sources.
Hard: Again I’ll go for 10,000 visits. I really need to build momentum for DotComDud.com for this to happen, so I’ll have to spread the word about this blog as much as I can.

Expansion
I’d still like to launch another blog and learn more about SEO. Also, it will help me get into good habits for creating more blogs in the future, as I think having multiple sites will naturally improve my earning potential.

Easy: Launch a new blog and have 10 posts live by the end of the month. This will be 5 posts for December plus the 5 that should have been made during November.
Medium: I am still undecided about a second blog or at least the Heroes blog I mentioned in my previous post. Maybe I’ll go through with it or I’ll get a new idea for a different blog. If I do, my Medium goal is to also launch a second new blog but only with 5 posts by the end of December.
Hard: Make some money from my new blogs. That’s it, nice and simple. I’ll be happy with any money in the first month but the more I make then the happier I’ll be.

With the month half over and the holidays fast approaching, hitting some of these goals will be really tough but I’ll do my best and report on my results during January. If you haven’t set goals for yourself, don’t forget that it’s not too late! Goals are a great motivator if nothing else, so good luck everyone!

  3. This is a great idea. Too many people who run a blog fail to implement goals. You have inspired me to do the same. :-)

  5. I like your setting on goals in stages - it’s something I do at work, planning digital strategies over monthly, yearly etc goals.

  6. I like that you’re having monthly goals, makes it easier to follow your progress.

You’re very close to 150 subscribers, I wonder if you’ll make it in time though :)
